Body piercing - a historical art of human society

Body piercing, a form of body modification, is the practice of puncturing or cutting a part of the human body, creating an opening in which jewellery may be worn. The word piercing can refer to the act or practice of body piercing, or to an opening in the body created by this act or practice. Although the history of body piercing is obscured by popular misinformation and by a lack of scholarly reference, ample evidence exists to document that it has been practiced in various forms by both sexes since ancient times throughout the world.

Ear piercing and nose piercing have been particularly widespread and are well represented in historical records and among grave goods. The oldest mummified remains ever discovered were sporting earrings, attesting to the existence of the practice more than 5,000 years ago. Nose piercing is documented as far back as 1500 BC. Piercings of these types have been documented globally, while lip and tongue piercings were historically found in African and American tribal cultures.

Nipple and genital piercing have also been practiced by various cultures, with nipple piercing dating back at least to Ancient Rome while genital piercing is described in Ancient India c. 320 to 550 CE. The history of navel piercing is less clear. The practice of body piercing has waxed and waned in Western culture, but it has experienced an increase of popularity since World War II, with sites other than the ears gaining subcultural popularity in the 1970s and spreading to mainstream in the 1990s.
The reasons for piercing or not piercing are varied. Some people pierce for religious or spiritual reasons, while others pierce for self-expression, for aesthetic value, for sexual pleasure, to conform to their culture or to rebel against it. Some forms of piercing remain controversial, particularly when applied to youth. The display or placement of piercings have been restricted by schools, employers and religious groups. In spite of the controversy, some people have practiced extreme forms of body piercing, with Guinness bestowing World Records on individuals with hundreds and even thousands of permanent and temporary piercings.

Contemporary body piercing practices emphasize the use of safe body piercing materials, frequently utilizing specialized tools developed for the purpose. Body piercing is an invasive procedure with some risks, including allergic reaction, infection, excessive scarring and unanticipated physical injuries, but such precautions as sanitary piercing procedures and careful aftercare are emphasized to minimize the likelihood of encountering serious problems. The healing time required for a body piercing may vary widely according to placement, from as little as a month for some genital piercings to as much as two full years for the navel.

Journey of Stephen Hawking and his wife with optimism

There are many up and downs in every one’s life but there are some exceptions present in world where we experiences some unknown power which is responsible for the miracles in the life. One of such exception is the world famous scientist named Stephen Hawking. You can easily experience the power of optimism in the life of Stephen Hawking.
Stephen Hawking was born in 1942 in England. Up to age of 21 years Hawking were normal boy as like others but there was something different in the mind of god and in early 1963 something went wrong with the Hawking. At the age of 21, Hawking had experienced increasing clumsiness during his final year at Oxford, including a fall on some stairs and difficulties when rowing. His physical problem started developing day by day and his speech became slurred. When Hawking returned to his home then his parents noticed something went wrong with the Stephen. Then after medical inspection it was found that Stephen were suffered from a rare early-onset slow-progressing form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis , also known as motor neuron disease or Lou Gehrig's disease because of which Hawking slowly paralyzed. He lost his muscle control gradually over the decade. At that time doctors gave him a life expectancy of two years only.
But Stephen’s will power was so strong that he still remains alive even after 2 years and continue to live as usual. Stephen started relationship with Jane Wilde, whom he had met shortly before his diagnosis with motor neuron disease, continued to develop. The couple became engaged in October 1964 and was married in 1965. But his life was not that much simple as his physical condition became gradually serious day by day. Hawking's speech deteriorated, he gradually lost the use of his hand and a strange thing happens when he visits the France. Hawking was affected with pneumonia. His condition was life-threatening; he was so ill that Jane was asked if life support should be terminated.
Now no one can imagine the condition of the lady when a doctor wants her permission to remove the life support of her husband. But the positivity of Jane was so strong that she was fully optimistic about the life of Hawking that she refuses it and strongly asks the doctors about any advance treatment for Stephens Hawking. After that doctors decided to go with tracheotomy, a complicated throat surgery. Not only Jane but also the Stephen Hawking was so optimistic about life that he were completely recovered out of that surgery.
Here we can easily see the optimism of Hawking family especially optimism of Stephen as he recovers from his complex surgery. I think his wife Jane becomes idol for all of us. She was so optimistic that she takes care of the physically handicapped Stephen. Jane gives so much mental and physical support to Stephen that Stephen manages to fight with his rare disease. You cannot imagine but Stephen Hawking still alive today also and in Jan 2015 he has completed his 73 years of age. With his positivity Stephen still delivers his knowledge to entire human race and he manages to discover many scientific theories specially related with black holes and presence of God or creator of the universe.

I think it is the power of optimism which helps Stephen to live and do something for our humans. His wife supports him when Stephen were in critical stage of life and saves his life by taking proper decision. Jane was so optimistic that she knows that Stephen will remain alive even though the expected life of Stephen was only up to 1963 by expert doctors. Definitely it is the power of his will and positivity that changes not only Stephen’s life but also life of entire human race on earth by his research on advanced Quantum gravity and General relativity.
